Do you truly understand the difference between
Marketing and Prospecting? Have a wee think about it for a minute.
Yep…that’s right, they are actually two different
things!
Remember in my last blog, we talked about, the
different posts you should be putting on your Social Media channels? You know
need to vary your posts between personal stuff so people can get to know who
you are, question posts to get people to engage, value posts where they can
learn something from you, inspirational posts to motivate and then the
occasional promo of your product or service.
This is Marketing. Marketing is when you hope that
one of your readers engages with you, comments on your post or is interested in
the products or services you provide. Most of these people fall into your cold
market.
But, once someone has engaged with you, you can
continue your conversation with them by adding them as a friend and taking your
conversation to messenger. They then become your warm market and become your
prospect.
Prospecting is when you engage with a person,
either online or offline to build relationships so that you can interest them
personally in your product or service.
See the difference? In marketing you’re relying on
your audience to reach out to you which is a very passive approach whereas
with prospecting, you are actively and personally reaching out to your audience
to build the know, like and trust factor before introducing your product or
service.
The lesson here is always to connect with the
person who likes, loves or comments on your Social Media posts. Connect with
them away from the post by using Messenger or another channel, build the online
friendship and then engage with them about your business.
Happy Prospecting!
